After 25 years of dreaming, planning, fund raising and building its first interpretive center, the Morro Bay Maritime Museum (MBMM) is ready to open. The Museum's Grand Opening Ceremonies and official Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting is set for September 29 from 10 am - 12 noon. The MBMM is located in the heart of the Morro Bay waterfront. Also, get FREE admittance every Saturday from September 29 – December 31, 2018.
Educational exhibits include an authentic crafted Salinan Tribe Tule Boat, U.S. Navy's role developing early maritime culture while establishing a WWII Amphibious Training Base that reconfigured Morro Bay, the story of the tugboat ALMA, the first boat to rescue crew members off a torpedoed oil tanker in WWII. Discover why the U.S. Navy built two DSRV-Rescue Submarine's after the disaster at sea of the Thresher. Also, the Avalon is on loan and sits tall adjacent to MBMM's first interpretive center.
