24TH VIRGINIA INFANTRY TO REENACT CIVIL WAR MARCH FROM SAILOR'S CREEK BATTLEFIELD TO SURRENDER AT APPOMATTOX
BLACKSBURG, VA, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- From April 7-11, 2010 the past will come alive when approximately twenty Civil War reenactors from North Carolina to Connecticut will march from Sailor's Creek Battlefield to Appomattox Court House National Park in Virginia. Dressed in full gear, they will march 47 miles following one of the original routes taken by the Army of Northern Virginia.

The march commemorates the 145th anniversary of the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia and is a fundraising event to raise money for the conservation of the 24th Virginia Infantry battle flag. The flag was captured during the Battle of Sailors Creek on April 6, 1865 and is currently housed at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond Virginia.
Although most of the campsites and route will be relatively inaccessible to the general public, please come out to see the group at Riverfront Park (517 North Main Street) in Farmville, VA on Wednesday evening, April 7th, and at 1 PM on Sunday, April 11th when the soldiers march into Appomattox Court House National Park, stack arms, and surrender.
