"This generous and much-needed in-kind contribution by Briggs & Stratton will make a significant difference in the lives of Haitians," says John Sanbrailo, PADF's executive director.
Briggs & Stratton's 5.5 kw generators, called Storm Responders, are powerful enough to provide electricity for a small home. They are portable and can run for 13 hours on a tank of gasoline.
"We are humbled to make this donation that will hopefully make a difference in the quality of everyday living in Haiti," said Laura Timm, Director of Corporate Communications at Briggs & Stratton. "Our core value is to improve the lives of others in our community and in order to make a difference we must consider that community the world."
The donation, valued at $250,000, was coordinated by Vero Beach, Fla.-based Haiti Partners, which will distribute 190 generators to schools, churches and clinics. PADF will share its 50 generators with Haiti's Civil Protection Department. The generators should clear customs by June 4.
In the eight weeks after the powerful quake, more than 300,000 people received food, water, shelter, medicine and other supplies from PADF and its partners thanks to individual, corporate and multilateral donations.
In addition to relief work, PADF and its partners Hollywood Unites for Haiti (HUFH) and the Organization of American States (OAS) have initiated recovery and reconstruction in key areas of Port-au-Prince and the Southeast province.
Individual and corporate donations to PADF-OAS-HUFH's Haiti relief, recovery and reconstruction efforts are encouraged by calling toll-free in the U.S. (877) 572-4484 or visiting www.PanAmericanRelief.org.
