2017 Empowering Women and Sustainable Development Through Arts and Crafts Auction to Help Chinese Charities

LOS ANGELES, June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2017 Empowering Women and Sustainable Development through Arts and Crafts Auction recently took over Universal Studios Hollywood in LA to raise funds for charities in China focused on empowering women.

The auction was part of the Empowering Women and Sustainable Development exhibition and gala dinner hosted by the China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) and the Sino-American Friendship Association (SAFA).

A Who's Who of international distinguished leaders attended the event including Sun, Lushan, Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles; Amanda Daflos, Director of Innovation Team of Mayor's Office of Budget Innovation; Jackie Filla, Commissioner with the Commission on the Status of Women Los Angeles; Kim Weedmark, Vice President of Universal Studios and special guests from China.

"China Women's Development Foundation and the Sino-American Friendship Association help the Chinese women who are in poverty to lead a better life," said Sun, Lushan, Deputy Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles pointed out the importance of empowering women and sustainability at the opening ceremony. "So I have to take this opportunity to express my respect to for their long-term efforts in pursing charity and promoting the culture exchanges. Women hold up half of the sky and I hope women will be benefit through charity support."

Arts and crafts, including a photo exhibit photographed by Yangfeng, Art Director of Beijing Maidao Baiqing Culture and Art Center, as well as a 150-meter long scarf designed by Zhang, Zhaoda, Vice President of the World Association of Chinese Artist, were displayed at the auction.  Items auctioned included an oil paper umbrella, a Chinese lacquer tray, a Guang embroidery- red thrush, Tibetan embroidery and tie-die crafts.

All proceeds from the auction were donated to the programs supporting women in need in China. The evening was a memorable night as guests dined together and shared ideas with each other on how to support empowering women globally.
