2015 National Young Game Inventors Contest Winner Announced: State The Picture Game Wins Kids' Contest
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Katlyn Chiles, an 11 year old, was named the winner of the National Young Game Inventors contest today. Katlyn Chiles, a native of Jefferson City, MO, submitted "State the Picture," a geography game based on drawing pictures to describe the fifty United States, which was chosen as the winner by University Games Corporation, San Francisco, CA. "The game is a real departure from our earlier winners. Families are going to love the mix of learning, drawing and fun," according to Bob Moog, President of University Games.
Katlyn Chiles will receive a $10,000 college savings bond and will get to see her game published later this year.
Other finalists were awarded $250 shopping sprees by Toys R Us, another major sponsor of the contest.
Alexandra Rohrer of El Dorado Hills, CA, age 6, invented "Trick or Treat Night" a delightful game centered around adventures associated with Halloween.
Drake Fruhaulf of San Anselmo, CA, age 8, submitted a creative 3D math calculation game called Math Mountain.
Benjamin DeBear of Morristown, NJ, age 7, created a sci-fi travel board game entitled Portals.
Maeve Schanou of Evanston, IL, age 10, submitted Junkyard Engineers, a marvelous game based on the popularity of STEAM curriculum and the Maker movement.
All of the finalist were selected out of a pool of submissions from throughout the Unites States.
Sponsors include University Games, Toys R Us, Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine, and RAFT.
