United States Steel Corporation's Mon Valley Works – Clairton Plant will conduct a TEST of its emergency system equipment on Saturday, May 16, 2015, beginning at 9 a.m. This annual test is performed to ensure that the plant's emergency systems function properly, thus aiding efforts to protect the safety of our employees and the surrounding communities in the event of an actual emergency. The TEST will involve the use of emergency notification devices such as sirens, lights and loud speakers that can be heard in the areas that surround the facility. The plant's emergency systems will be activated one area at a time, and there are five distinct areas that will be tested. The TEST may take up to five hours to complete. U. S. Steel has notified all local government and emergency agencies, including fire and police departments, as well as Allegheny County's 911 Call Center. Since this is a systems TEST only, no employee evacuations will occur and no local emergency responders will be on scene.
