MIDLAND, Mich., April 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Center Stage Theatre at Midland Center for the Arts is excited to once again host an American Association of Community Theatre Festival. AACTFest provides an opportunity for community theatres to enter one-act productions for adjudication and possible advancement to compete at the national level. On April 17 and 18, Center Stage Theatre will host the 5-state Region 3 competition, which includes theatre companies from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
"We are thrilled to be hosting acting troupes from across the state at this year's festival. This is a great opportunity to share with our fellow theatre lovers!" remarks Dexter Brigham, Center Stage Theatre Managing Director.
AACT festivals are truly inspiring and exciting experiences.
All the elements of each show must fit into a 10-foot square marked on the stage: set, props, musical instruments, costumes, and even the actors. The buzzer sounds and the first show is off and running. The actors hustle to set up their show in 10 minutes – because that's when their performance must start. They must end their piece no later than 60 minutes later, and then they have 10 minutes to put it all back in their box and leave the stage bare again.
Participating troupes start planning months before the competition: choosing a play (or portion of a play) that lasts no more than 60 minutes, obtaining rights to perform, creating a budget, selecting a cast that is available for the festival, rehearsing, building a traveling set that can be erected in 10 minutes or less, performing for the fans at home, and securing funding for the adventure.
Region 3 competing troupes: Byron Civic theatre (Byron, IL); Playhouse on the Square (Jacksonville, IL); Elkhart Civic Theatre, (Bristol, IN); Kokomo Civic Theatre (Kokomo, IN); Holland Civic Theatre (Holland, MI); Players De Noc (Escanaba, MI); Troy Civic Theatre (Troy, OH); Williams County Community Theatre (Bryan, OH); Baraboo Theatre Guild (Baraboo, WI); and Sun Prairie Civic Theatre (Sun Prairie, WI).
Tickets are $8 per show, with multi-ticket discounts available. For show schedule of tickets, visit www.mcfta.org/aactfest or call (800) 523-7649.
