2014 ADCOLOR® Honorees and Nominees Announced at ADCOLOR Live!
Judy Smith, Charles King, Anthony Watson & more honored
HONOREES AND NOMINEES ANNOUNCED IN ALL CATEGORIES; ADCOLOR® AWARDS TO TAKE PLACE ON SEPTEMBER 20th AT THE BEVERLY HILTON IN LOS ANGELES
NEW YORK, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Honorees and Nominees for the 2014 ADCOLOR® Awards were announced last night at ADCOLOR LIVE! 2014. The event was streamed live on www.AdColor.org from The Time Warner Center in New York City and was hosted by CNN's Don Lemon. ADCOLOR Live! is presented by CNN.
The 2014 Catalysts honorees are Judy Smith and Charles King.
Judy A. Smith is the founder and President of Smith & Company, a leading strategic and crisis communications firm with offices in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. Over the last 25 years, Ms. Smith has brought her unique combination of communication skills, media savvy, legal and political acumen to clients facing a wide array of issues and challenges throughout the United States and abroad. As a result of her wide ranging and ground breaking career, Shonda Rhimes, creator of ABC's hit television dramas Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, developed a television drama about the world of crisis management inspired by Ms. Smith. The series, entitled "Scandal," revolves around the life and work of a professional fixer. Ms. Smith serves as Co-Executive Producer of the project and provides insight and technical expertise on crisis management issues.
Ms. Smith is the author of the book, Good Self, Bad Self, published by Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc. She has received numerous communications and leadership awards and is active in community service.
Charles King is a Partner/Agent in the Motion Picture Department at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME). He joined the storied William Morris Agency mailroom in 1997 and was promoted two years later to Agent, becoming the first African American to rise from the training program in the Beverly Hills Film/Television department in the company's 101-year history. King was promoted to Vice President in 2004, Senior Vice President in 2006 and became a partner in 2010 after the William Morris merger with Endeavor.
Charles King is a visible champion for causes he believes in, both within and outside of the entertainment industry. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Award from the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. He currently sits on several nonprofit and advisory boards: The Next Generation Council of the Motion Picture and Television Fund, the WME Foundation, The Board of Visitors for Howard University School of Law, The Challengers: Boys and Girls Club, The Coalition for At Risk Youth, The Children's Defense Fund's Beat The Odds Scholarship and The American Black Film Festival.
The 2014 Advocate honoree is Anthony Watson.
Watson is the Chief Information Officer ("CIO") of Nike, Inc. ("NIKE") where he has company-wide strategic and operational responsibility for leading and delivering all enterprise information technology across all NIKE category, product and business brands, operational and geographic business units, affiliate brands and subsidiaries, globally.
Watson is an Independent Non-Executive Director; Member of the Board, Chair of the Board Audit Committee and a Member of the Remuneration Committee of Digital Global Services, a public company listed on the London Stock Exchange. In addition, Watson is a Non-Executive Director; Member of the Board, Chair of the Audit Committee and a Member of the Finance Committee of GLAAD, the world's largest LGBT media advocacy organization and a Patron of Diversity Role Models, a London based LGBT education and anti-homophobic bullying charity.
Watson is the Chair of the European Diversity Awards, Europe's largest awards ceremony which recognizes and celebrates individuals, organizations and companies from across Europe, that make a difference in the field of diversity and inclusion.
