2014: A Big Year for Mill Steel Co.
CEO wins national award, the company expands its footprint, and enters new marketplace
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For Grand Rapids, Mich., based steel service center Mill Steel Co.—2014 was an exciting year. In December, the company not only celebrated its 55th year in business, but also the recognition of President and CEO, David Samrick, as 'Service Center Executive of the Year' by Metal Center News, an industry-leading steel trade publication.
This award comes on the heels of a big year for Mill Steel. In April of 2014, the company expanded its operations to the Port of Indiana—Jeffersonville. The new location houses state-of-the-art equipment—including a cut-to-length line, which enhances the company's service capabilities. Upon the March 2015 completion of the 120,000-square-foot renovation, the building will impose 225,000-square-feet—Mill Steel's largest facility to date.

Mill Steel soon sought another growth opportunity and in November acquired the assets of Steel Structural Systems, a leading steel framing components manufacturer, located in nearby Louisville, KY. Now operating as Steel Structural Products LLC, the company will continue its growth in the construction products arena. "Mill Steel has begun to look at acquisitions beyond its service center operations to other flat-rolled steel manufacturing businesses, which do not compete with its core stamping and roll-forming customers," says Eric Lambert, Senior Vice President, CFO and COO, Mill Steel.
