CHICAGO, Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The results of the 2013 Law Department Operations Survey, produced by Blickstein Group and InsideCounsel, a Summit Professional Networks publication, have been released showing the growing influence legal departments are gaining in many areas including compliance, metrics and reporting, and in driving and implementing law department management strategy.

The Sixth Annual Law Department Operations Survey is a partnership between Blickstein Group, Inc. and InsideCounsel, the leading publication for in-house counsel, and is produced in cooperation with Huron Legal. Led by an in-house legal advisory board chaired by David Cambria, Director of Global Operations – Law, Compliance and Government Affairs at Archer Daniels Midland Company, the survey provides legal departments with a consistent platform to benchmark themselves, identify emerging trends in legal department management, and better understand how the largest companies are handling department operations.
While cost-saving initiatives are still a strong focus for LDOs in the findings, the survey also brought forth some new areas of focus. "Almost 95% of respondents stated that their law departments are primarily responsible for, or meaningful influencers over, the company's cyber security issues," said Brad Blickstein, principal of Blickstein Group. "Further, 29% of respondents stated that they believe their law firms' cyber security provisions need improvement in order to protect client data, and 2% said their firms are not effective at all."
The survey, the results of which were published in InsideCounsel's December issue, includes data compiled from many leading corporate legal departments and was designed by an advisory board of legal department operations directors.
The LDO Survey was sponsored by Huron Legal, Bridgeway and Serengeti. To view the 2013 supplement, visit InsideCounsel.com/LDO.
