2013-2014 Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Award Winners Announced

WASHINGTON, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR) announced today the winners of the 13^th annual Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Awards. The awards, named in honor of FBR's late chairman Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, recognize outstanding journalism that highlights the role of biomedical research that includes the humane and responsible use of animal models, cell cultures, and computer modeling in recent medical discoveries and scientific breakthroughs.

"In 2002, FBR established the DeBakey Journalism Awards to strengthen the bridge between the scientific community and the media. Dr. DeBakey believed journalists are a critical filter between scientists and the public, as they have the weighty responsibility of translating complicated scientific jargon into a language the public understands," said FBR president Frankie Trull.
