I wish you all could have met my parents. They were amazing people. I miss them every day.

It's hard moving forward. But working toward my degree, and to re-elect our president keeps me focused on the future—and honor my mom and my dad. In fact, the last thing my dad said to me was that he was proud I was taking school seriously for the first time in a long time.

Both of my parents were scientists. They wanted me to be a scientist, too, but I've always been more interested in how we pick our leaders, and how they help us. So I'm making a compromise—I'm studying political science. And at 28, I'm two semesters away from graduating from the University of Colorado.

I've worked and saved and have a great family. But there's just no way I'd be able to pay for school without the Pell grant funding President Obama doubled. And while I'm determined to get my degree, I also know I can't sit on the sidelines. That's why I'm knocking on doors for President Obama.

He believes no child should see his parents suffer like I did, and believes all of us deserve the education we need to get the jobs our country needs. Helping re-elect President Obama is the least I can do for how he's helped me.

I went back to school because I wanted to learn about how our country works and how our leaders help us. I hear some of my classmates ask whether they even understand us. The best answer I can give them is two words: I'm here.
