2010 Land Report 100 Shows Leading Landowners Doubling Down
DALLAS, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Major acquisitions by famous names highlight the 2010 Land Report 100. "Liberty Media CEO John Malone just closed on New Mexico's massive Bell Ranch. Hedge fund manager Louis Moore Bacon bought a historic plantation that was once owned by an ancestor of his. And America's largest landowner, CNN founder Ted Turner, added Georgia's Nonami Plantation to the 2 million acres he already owns," says Land Report Editor Eric O'Keefe.
The Land Report 100 is an annual survey compiled by The Land Report that features the 100 largest private landowners in the U.S. It focuses on individuals and families and excludes leased land, public land, and the holdings of publicly traded companies and not-for-profits. Some of the other nationally known landowners who made the 2010 Land Report 100 include St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke, Denver billionaire Phillip Anschutz, Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, and the Hearst family.
"These acquisitions by Malone, Moore, and Turner are just the tip of the iceberg," O'Keefe adds. "More and more Americans are taking their hard-earned dollars out of the stock market and putting them into tangible assets. Over $30 billion was withdrawn from mutual funds in the first half of 2010, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if a considerable amount ends up invested in land."
This trend is echoed by the magazine's advertisers. "Ad numbers continue to climb as discriminating investors follow the lead of the Ted Turners and the John Malones, razor-sharp businessmen who have diversified their portfolios with substantial long-term investments in land," says Land Report Publisher Eddie Lee Rider Jr. "With each issue in 2010, our sales team at WNG Media has increased its book of business."
Founded in 2007, The Land Report is a quarterly print publication whose readership includes leading landowners, top recreational land brokers, and elected officials. In addition to the print version, the Magazine of the American Landowner is available online at Land Report.com and via Facebook and Twitter.
