2010 Hurricane Season is Here; Time to Plan, Prepare and Inspect
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With the 2010 hurricane season just days away, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, Inc - FLASH® is reminding families to take time to perform a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Wind Inspection on their homes before tropical weather approaches.
The free DIY Wind Inspection online tool and accompanying video, found on www.flash.org provides homeowners with the information necessary to inspect and learn about their homes most vulnerable components such as their roof and doors. It also shows homeowners what to look for in determining the overall condition of their home.
"A checklist containing explanations and pictures will help the homeowner record what they find so they can determine if they can make the repairs themselves or hire a professional to do them," said Leslie Chapman - Henderson, FLASH President/CEO. "Don't wait until a storm is approaching to get prepared, early preparation saves lives, money and resources."
Also available at the newly re-designed www.flash.org website are a library of animated short how -to videos on disaster safety prevention techniques. FLASH also maintains a toll-free hotline at (877) 221-SAFE where homeowners can speak with builders, engineers and other experts.
FLASH also launched the final phase of the Great Hurricane Blowout social media campaign today during the Governors Hurricane Conference in South Florida. The final phase, "Protect Your Home in a FLASH," weaves weekly prize giveaways with tips on how to strengthen homes against the damaging winds and water of hurricanes. This element completes the campaign that will continue throughout hurricane season until November 30th.
