2,000 NJ Churchgoers Take to Streets to Fight Global Killer
Liquid Church of NJ Hosts 5K "SuperHero" Run to Solve Clean Water Crisis for Thousands In Central America and Africa
MORRISTOWN, N.J., May 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, 2,000 children under the age of 5 will die from something totally preventable-- dirty water. Currently, 1 in 9 people in the world lack access to clean drinking water putting them at risk for debilitating diarrhea, typhoid, and cholera. However, on Saturday May 11th, 2,000 attendees of Liquid Church in NJ will put on capes and masks to fight the global killer. The charity fundraiser in Morristown, NJ, includes a 5k fun run, Superhero costume contest, and afternoon party at Pioneer Park.
"Our church has a passion for bringing clean water to families in need around the globe," said Tim Lucas, Lead Pastor of the non-denominational Christian church. "It's time for us to leave our seats and take to the streets to be part of the solution to the global water crisis."
Liquid Church has been championing clean water projects across Africa and Central America, funding and completing over 50 well drilling projects over the last four years. Volunteers from the church travel each quarter to remote villages in El Salvador, Haiti and, starting this year, Nicaragua. Over $750,000 has been raised to date by the church to solve water access issues in developing countries. Funds raised from the Superhero 5k event will be used to further clean water efforts.
"This event celebrates the fact that each of us has the power to save a life. You can be a hero by simply coming out to run or walk and join the fight against Dirty Water," said Lucas.
Registration and event details are available online at www.5kSuperhero.com. Race fees are $35 before May 10th, and $50 for on-site registration. Kids under 18 are $10. All are welcome to participate.
