17 California Schools Impacted By Budget Cuts to Receive Volunteer Makeovers as Part of 11th "Comcast Cares Day"
Comcast California to Mobilize 3,000 Employees, Family Members, Students and Parents in One of Nation's Largest Single-Day Corporate Volunteer Efforts
LIVERMORE, Calif., April 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 21, more than 3,000 local Comcast employees and their families and friends will volunteer to improve 17 schools throughout California that have been affected by budget cuts as part of Comcast's 11th annual "Comcast Cares Day." At the same time across the country, more than 67,000 Comcast volunteers will participate in this day of service, which has become one of the largest single days of corporate volunteering in the nation since its inception in 2001.
Throughout California, local elected officials will be on hand at the schools as Comcast employees will spend the day planting shrubs, repainting walls, building picnic tables and bookshelves, repairing fences, weeding flower beds, power-washing playgrounds, replacing bark and performing landscaping projects at the schools listed below. Specific projects will include creating a learning garden in Sacramento, sanding and painting benches in Vallejo, painting a mural in San Jose, painting the United States and world maps on the playground in Lompoc, repainting playground lines in Fresno, and replacing old metal play equipment with a brand new play structure in Los Banos.
"Our local students and campuses continue to feel the devastating effects of school budget cuts, and we hope that our Comcast Cares Day efforts at 17 California schools can have a positive impact on that situation," said Curt Henninger, Regional Senior Vice President for Comcast California. "Comcast Cares Day is part of our ongoing commitment to education and to improving the quality of life in the neighborhoods where we live and work."
Over the previous 10 "Comcast Cares Days," Comcast volunteers have dedicated more than 2.1 million hours of service. The Company has also contributed more than $10.5 million in grants to organizations nationwide. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps to power dreams and demonstrate a year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves.
