16 California Schools Impacted By Budget Cuts To Receive Volunteer Makeovers As Part Of 12th "Comcast Cares Day"
Comcast California to Mobilize 3,500 Employees, Family Members, Students and Parents in Nation's Largest Single-Day Corporate Volunteer Effort
LIVERMORE, Calif., April 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 27, more than 3,500 local Comcast employees and their families and friends will "make change happen" as they volunteer to improve 16 schools throughout California that have been affected by budget cuts as part of Comcast's 12th annual "Comcast Cares Day." Comcast Cares Day is Comcast and NBCUniversal's signature day of service and the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer effort.
Throughout California, local elected officials will be on hand at the schools as Comcast employees will spend the day planting shrubs, repainting walls, building picnic tables and bookshelves, repairing fences, weeding flower beds, power-washing playgrounds, replacing bark and performing landscaping projects at the schools listed below. Members of the community are invited to participate, but must register at: www.comcastinthecommunity.com.
This year the Company expects more than 70,000 Comcast volunteers to participate in over 600 projects across the country, and for the first time will expand internationally with NBCUniversal operating various project sites in London. Comcast also expects to achieve another important milestone of 3 million volunteer hours and half a million volunteers since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.
"We're so honored to partner with our local schools to work together to improve our community during our 12th Comcast Cares Day," said Hank Fore, Regional Senior Vice President of Comcast California. "The hard work of the thousands of volunteers who will be donating their time to help make such a big difference in the lives of others is inspiring, and I am thankful to all of our participants who are helping to make Comcast Cares Day a success."
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date Comcast has committed more than $12 million in grants to organizations nationwide.
Comcast has been committed to serving local communities since our founding 50 years ago. For more information on Comcast's volunteer and community investment initiatives, visit www.comcast.com/community.
