12th Annual Shirley Mae Run and Michael J. Walk to be Held at Tropicana Casino & Resort
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 250 breast cancer survivors will gather Saturday, May 10th for the 12th annual Shirley Mae Run & Michael J. Walk benefiting the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund and the Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund.
The event will kick off with an unforgettable breast cancer survivors' wave and bell ringing celebration, led by Shirley Mae Goldberg, on the balcony of Fin Restaurant at the Tropicana Casino & Resort overlooking thousands of spectators on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The women – mothers, grandmothers, sisters and daughters – will be honored in a celebration of life as survivors.
Established in August 2000, the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund began with a gift from Atlantic City businessman Roy Goldberg, who created the fund after he was inspired by the determination and drive of his mother, Shirley Mae Goldberg, during her battle with breast cancer.
The mission and goal of the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund is to benefit patients diagnosed with breast cancer. The Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund provides financial assistance for items like the cost of prescriptions, wigs and breast prosthesis. Since its inception, the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer and Assistance Fund has raised and distributed over $1.4 million dollars for supplies and medicine for breast cancer patients in southern New Jersey.
"Again this year we are proud to dedicate the walk in memory of my brother-in-law, Michael J. Neustadter, who lost his heroic battle with pancreatic cancer," Roy Goldberg said. "The Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund makes grants for the benefit of those in financial need and to fund medical research for the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of pancreatic cancer."
1400AM WOND personality and Atlantic City legend Pinky Kravitz will lead the Michael J. Walk down the Boardwalk followed by the Mummers.
Tropicana will again be the host sponsor of the event along with AtlantiCare, which will present the Michael J. Walk.
Registration fees for the 5K Run are $30 in advance and $35 day of event. The fee for entering the 1.5-mile walk is $25 advance & $30 day of event. Reduced entry fees are available for children and students.
