12-Year Olds Prepare for Future Retail Fashion Careers
FashionCampNYC Launches Two New Innovative Programs for Tweens & Teens
NEW YORK, Jan. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wearable technology, 3-D printing, pop-up retailing, and "citizen stylists" are just some of the trends in the retail fashion industry. To help young people prepare for the ever-changing fashion business, FashionCampNYC, an 8-year old summer program, has introduced two new options for 2015:
- Fashion Week Camp from FashionCampNYC is a one-day intensive experiential program on Friday, February 13th at WeWork Bryant Park, during which "campers" ages 12-18 will visit the tent at Lincoln Center, get exclusive tours of both a shoe showroom and a full-service embellishment factory, and hear from Coach executives about retail fashion career options. The program is limited to 15 spots and is close to selling-out. It was marketed mainly to past summer camp attendees and response was immediate and positive.
- Fashion Tech Talks is a new series of tours and field trips that will be introduced this summer as part of the sold-out FashionCampNYC, a one-week experience that teaches tweens and teens the basics of retail fashion – from branding to merchandising to fashion journalism. Previous speakers have included designer wunderkind Isabella Rose Taylor and executives from Neiman Marcus, Sam Edelman, and Theory, as well as fashion publicists, stylists, and bloggers.
Says Gordon Josey, Founder and Director of FashionCampNYC, "We've heard from parents that kids are preparing for college, fashion school, and retail fashion careers at a very early age. Our programs expose Fashion Campers to so many different career options and give them amazing networking opportunities. We've invited them to runway shows, book signings, and other events in the off-season and are now formally expanding those opportunities and creating an all-day intensive program – that's fun and educational!"
