12-Year-Old Surfer Girl Makes Surfing History In Three Short Weeks!
THE SUMMER OF CAROLINE MARKS
MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla., Aug. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- What does a young girl starting out in the highly competitive world of contest surfing have to do to make people pay attention? A three-week trip to California has provided 12-year-old Caroline Marks www.gromsocial.com/caroline, part of the Grom Social family, with that opportunity. She achieved what some may call an impossible result by becoming the first surfer ever to capture Four National Championship Titles in one summer.
The Melbourne Beach, Florida youngster started her amazing run at the 2014 Surfing America Championships at famed surf break Lower Trestles winning the U12, U14 and the U16 girls finals – earning her place in the Surfing America history books. Caroline is also the youngest girl to ever to make the SURFING AMERICA USA Surf Team.
One week later, Caroline found herself hitting the waves at world famous Surf City, home of the Huntington Beach Pier. The NSSA National Championships attracts the toughest group of amateur surfing talent from all fifty states and has extended its reach beyond the US borders. Typically reserved for an older surfer, the top prize is the prestigious Mayor's Cup. Her impressive backhand attack combined with critical air section floats and razor sharp rail surfing put Caroline into four NSSA division finals. Taking very respectable results in Explorer Women's, Explorer Girls and Open Girls, Caroline put it all on the line in the Open Women's division and captured herself the 2014 NSSA Nationals Open Women's Mayor's Cup Title.
"It feels really good to have gotten such good results this summer but I just want to stay focused and keep pushing my surfing," said Caroline.
Next Up: Caroline's impressive three-week run turned the heads and minds in the surf industry in a new direction. It's not often that a 12 year-old surfer girl captures the attention of an entire industry. The reward for her efforts gained Caroline a WILD CARD slot in the upcoming ASP 6 star SUPER GIRL event at Oceanside Pier, California August 8-10th. Her dedication to surfing has taken her skill set to heights far surpassing anyone's expectations, including her own. "Caroline learned to surf side by side with older brothers, Zach and Luke, who challenged her to surf better every time they got in the water," Caroline's Dad, Darren Marks says.
