10th Annual Capay Tomato Festival To Crown Summer's Best Heirloom And Cherry Tomato Varieties
Event benefits the Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture; tomato tastings, live music, kids' activities, farm tour and "Best Guest Picnic Contest" are event highlights
CAPAY, Calif., June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Farm Fresh To You (www.farmfreshtoyou.com), a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and home delivery service that provides fresh, local, organic produce and artisanal farm products to consumers' doorsteps and its farm, Capay Organic, invites the public to its 10th Annual Capay Tomato Festival on Saturday, July 22, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The farm's address is 23808 State Hwy 16, Capay, Calif. 95607.
Capay Tomato offers a full slate of activities for all ages, including heirloom and cherry tomato tastings, farm tours, live music throughout the afternoon and evening, and camping in the farm orchards.
Event proceeds benefit the Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture (KBNP). The KBNP seeks to support sustainable agriculture and farm workers by giving an annual scholarship to a high school senior planning to pursue a field related to sustainable agriculture and by donating backpacks with school supplies to farmworker families in the Capay Valley. Last year, it distributed over 900 backpacks.
"We invite the public to see how and where their food is grown by visiting our farm," said Thaddeus Barsotti, farmer and co-owner of Farm Fresh To You. "We are proud that our parents played a role in reintroducing the heirloom tomato to the marketplace and that our festival has been going 10 years strong."
Tomato Tasting
Visitors can take part in a tomato tasting featuring heirloom and cherry tomato varieties and vote for their favorites. Winning tomato varieties will be announced that evening.
Live Music and Dancing on the Farm
Capay Tomato features lives music from three local bands. Stage times are:
4:00 p.m. Lauren Wakefield
6:30 p.m. Miss Lonely Hearts
9:00 p.m. The Golden Cadillacs
Food and Drink
Meals from local purveyors made with farm produce will be sold. Tacos 911 will sell authentic tacos and burritos. Cali Love Food Truck will whip up local, sustainable food entrees. Luciano's Scoop will treat the guests with gelato and iced coffee drinks. Organic ice pops from Fairyella Ice Pops will be available. Pachamama Coffee Cooperative will brew up iced, fair-trade coffees. All food and drink is sold separately from the admission price. The Farm Fresh To You market stand will sell produce, specialty food items and farm wear.
Guests are also encouraged to bring their own picnics, and the event will feature a "Best Guest Picnic Contest." Farm staff will roam the event scouting for the best-looking picnic. The winner will receive three complimentary Farm Fresh To You deliveries.
Fun Family Activities
Visitors can make herb salt with organic farm herbs (hosted by Food Literacy Center), ride the tractor-tram, sample local olive oil and honey, pet farm animals, and delight in bubble making, pick-up soccer games, sprinkler fun and kids' crafts for free.
Ticket & Camping Information
Tickets are on sale now online for $20 per person (children ages 12 and under are free) through Thursday, July 20. Thereafter, guests can buy admission at the farm. Online sales also include a group ticket option – 4 tickets for $70. Tickets will be sold at the door for $25 per person.

Guests can also camp overnight in the farm's fruit orchards. Campsites usually sell out – reserve them online for $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Price of camping does not include price of admission to the event. The space allows one car per site. No campfires and no pets please. Guests may stay until 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 23..

The farm is located 90 miles northeast of San Francisco and 30 minutes northwest of Sacramento.
From the Bay Area:
Take Interstate 80 East to Interstate 505 North. Go approximately 20 miles; exit on Highway 16/Esparto, turn left at the light. Follow Highway 16 through Esparto and Capay. The farm is a 1/4 mile past the town of Capay on the right. Look for the Farm Fresh To You metal sign and turn onto the gravel road that leads to the event parking area.
From Sacramento:
Take Interstate 5 North through Woodland to the Highway 16 W/Esparto exit. Take the exit and turn left; then travel three miles to the second stoplight. Turn right onto Highway 16. Follow Highway 16 through Esparto and Capay. The farm is a 1/4 mile past the town of Capay on the right. Look for the Farm Fresh To You metal sign and turn onto the gravel road that leads to the event parking area.
