1000Memories and Wreaths Across America Partner to Create The Million Memories Project
A Place For Family And Friends To Gather To Remember American Heroes, Honor Those Who Serve And Teach Future Generations
HARRINGTON, Maine, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 1000Memories and Wreaths Across America™ today announced a new partnership that aims to help remember the sacrifices of American veterans - preserving their lives and memories for future generations.
The Million Memories Project is focused on preserving the memory of veterans as a way to remember their lives and teach future generations the value and cost of the freedoms that they enjoy. A free website (http://1000Memories.com/waa) allows users to create pages to remember and honor the sacrifices of veterans.
Veteran pages are available in multiple designs, all with a focus on the individual, including one design that draws on the American flag. Each veteran's page can include unlimited photos, stories and other media -- woven together in a rich emotional space. Family and friends also have the opportunity to use the site to sponsor a wreath as part of Wreaths Across America.
Both organizations believe that the 'Million Memories Project' is an unprecedented attempt to record and preserve the story of every American soldier. Brett Huneycutt, a co-founder of 1000Memories and the son of a retired United States Air Force Colonel, said, "This is the largest online initiative to capture the stories and memories of the soldiers that helped shape this country. We're making history. There has never been such an ambitious attempt to remember the lives of American soldiers and record their stories for future generations."
Karen Worcester of Wreaths Across America echoed this sentiment: "It is exciting to be working with 1000Memories to provide this opportunity for families, friends and communities to share the lives of their home town heroes. What a terrific way to further the Wreaths Across America mission - Remember, Honor and Teach. I believe that these history lessons from the heart will far surpass those from history books."
Wreaths Across America™ (WAA) is a national non-profit organization that has grown quickly to encompass over 500 participating locations and 160,000+ volunteers around the Country. Wreaths Across America's mission is to Remember, Honor and Teach: Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve including their families who sacrifice, and Teach our children the cost of the freedoms we enjoy each day.
It is WAA's belief that, as Calvin Coolidge said, "The nation which forgets its defenders will soon be forgotten."
WAA pursues its mission with nation-wide wreath-laying events amid the holiday season, and year-round educational outreach inviting all Americans to appreciate our freedoms and the cost at which they are delivered.
1000Memories is a San Francisco based tech start-up that offers a place for family and friends to remember the life of a loved one. The 1000Memories website, which incorporates a unique focus on design and collaboration, was started by three friends who have each experienced the loss of a loved one and sought to create a new way to remember their lives.
