1,000 Dreams Fund Launches: New National Scholarship Program for Young Women Announces First-Ever 1,000 Dreams Challenge
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the 1,000 Dreams Fund announced the launch of its first-ever 1,000 Dreams Challenge, a photo caption campaign on social media with $2000 at stake. The national scholarship fund, which launched in 2015, provides college-bound and college-aged women with up to $1,000 in funding to help fulfill their dreams or goals.
The 1,000 Dreams Challenge invites young women attending high school or a two- or four-year college to submit a photo (on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) using the hashtag #1000DreamsChallenge along with a caption that best describes what they are doing to reach their career or professional dream. The 1,000 Dreams Fund's social community will vote for the most inspiring photo submission. The five top-voted photos will become finalists from which the 1,000 Dreams Fund team will pick one grand prize winner to receive a $1,000 grant along with two runners-up who will receive $500 each. The grants are intended to help winners fund their career goals and dreams.
"The birth of the 1,000 Dreams Fund - and now the Challenge - was inspired by my own life-changing extracurricular experiences that I had in college," explains 1,000 Dreams Fund founder Christie Garton. "Unfortunately, many young women are not able to access these opportunities due to lack of funding and the crippling burden of student loan debt."
Since its launch, the 1,000 Dreams Fund has awarded 20 students with up to $1,000 in funding to support out-of-classroom opportunities and educational expenses critical to success in the real world. The Fund covers such out-of-classroom activities from study abroad to internships to educational expenses like tech devices and textbooks. These activities and expenses, similar to college tuition, have risen exponentially, making such opportunities out of reach for many students.
"With the 1,000 Dreams Fund, we're looking to level the playing field so more young women can better reach their awe-inspiring dreams," Garton says.
