100 Teachers to Receive $125 Grants From Consumers Energy
JACKSON, Mich., May 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of its 125th anniversary, Consumers Energy is giving 100 grants to teachers who had their students participate in the utility's Hazard Hamlet or Respect the Flags programs.
Each teacher who hosted a presentation this year was entered into a random drawing to win a grant, worth $125 each. The grants may be used to purchase school supplies and other educational items. They will be sent to teachers before the end of the school year.
Hazard Hamlet and Respect the Flags are free educational programs designed to provide students with a better understanding of natural gas and electrical safety.
"We appreciate teachers inviting us into their classrooms to educate their students on natural gas and electric safety," said Marjorie Longcore, education programs manager for Consumers Energy. "Since it's a year of celebration for us, marking our 125th anniversary of serving Michigan's businesses and families, we wanted to do something special for teachers who support Hazard Hamlet and Respect the Flags."
