REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In a newly released report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for information about the telecommunications and networking industries, 10 Gbps Ethernet controller and adapter revenue posted 19 percent sequential growth, the highest rate in more than two years, and reached more than $150 million during the second quarter.

"Besides Cloud and High Performance Computing, enterprise customers' appetite for 10 Gbps is heating up, propelled by the launch of Intel's new server platform named 'Romley,'" said Sameh Boujelbene, Senior Analyst covering Controller and Adapter at Dell'Oro Group. "Nevertheless, the Romley ramp was significantly uneven amongst the server manufacturers, leading to mixed results across the controller and adapter vendors during the quarter."
According to the report, there was a major revenue and port share shift between Broadcom, Cisco, Emulex and Intel. For the first time, Intel recorded the highest port shipments in the quarter, followed by Broadcom. We expect quarterly share shifts to continue as the Romley-based servers ramp up throughout the second half of the year.
The Controller and Adapter report tracks 10 Gbps migration onto stand-alone vs. blade servers and gives details about daughter card ports and ASPs as well as 10G Base-T shipments by form factor.
