Nation's largest-annual celebration of opportunity in K-12 education kicks off next week (January 20-26, 2019)
WASHINGTON, Jan. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 10.8 million Americans are expected to participate in 40,549 events and activities during National School Choice Week, which runs from January 20 – 26.
Designed to raise awareness of the different K-12 education choices that parents have for their children, National School Choice Week will feature open houses, information sessions, student celebrations, school fairs, and other special events across all 50 states.
"Parents have more school choices for their children than at any other time in history, and we want families across America to use National School Choice Week to discover the best possible educational environments for their individual children," said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week.
National School Choice Week 2019 events and activities are independently planned by:
- 21,255 schools of all types
- 15,300 individual families
- 1,684 homeschool groups
- 1,332 individual teachers, campus groups, or organizations
- 978 local chambers of commerce
There will also be more than 70 large, coalition-style celebrations in 42 states during the week, designed to draw positive attention to the skills, talents, and achievements of students, parents, teachers, and schools.
First celebrated in 2011, National School Choice Week has grown significantly over the years. Compared to NSCW 2018, there will be 25 percent more events and activities – and an estimated 55 percent more participants – in 2019.
"With so many participating schools, organizations, and individuals – and with continued growth for this important public awareness effort – we look forward with gratitude to a positive, uplifting, and informative national celebration," Campanella said.
National School Choice Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and does not advocate for or against legislation or public policy.
