CUPERTINO, Calif., March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet TV Platform 1 Mainstream today announced that it has teamed with SportsLabs, a division of Silver Chalice Ventures, to launch the ACC Digital Network's "ACC Sports" service on Internet-enabled set-top devices, making select Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) content available to even more households. The details surrounding the ACC Sports app were announced this morning by the Atlantic Coast Conference Digital Network (ACCDN). As reported earlier today on MediaPost and Bloomberg West, this new, free channel on over-the-top (OTT) boxes conveniently comes at a time when many sports fans are turning their attention to college basketball for the national championships.
"Sports programming has always been a significant driver of traditional TV consumption, so bringing ACC to the streaming TV audience is a tremendous step in the right direction," said Rajeev Raman, CEO, 1 Mainstream. "It's great for consumers to see that there is more to streaming than movies." ACC Sports will be covering the tournament extensively throughout the month, with new content updated daily. ACC Sports will also allow OOT device owners to access content from Campus Insiders, the leading digital college sports network, which covers all major college conferences.
"In the digital space, it's critical that our networks be accessible on as many internet enabled devices as possible," said John Burris, President of Silver Chalice Ventures/SportsLabs. "1 Mainstream allowed us to extend our free, on-demand college sports content to streaming TV users in just a few weeks. We knew this would be a great opportunity to showcase our premium college content in time for the tournament and 1 Mainstream provided a turnkey solution for us."
Content available via the ACC Sports app includes a "Road to Texas" feature series, team profiles, and tournament previews featuring ACCDN host Jeff Fischel and former ACC basketball greats Drew Barry and JR Reid.
ACC Sports is available now.
