$1 Billion Invested in URLLC; is it a reasonable Investment?
Mobile Experts Details low-latency, high reliability communications through 2029
CAMPBELL, Calif., Nov. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- RAN equipment vendors and chipset suppliers are investing a great deal into developing low-latency, high reliability communications. According to a report published this week by Mobile Experts, the industry is investing around $1 billion during 2018 alone to make 5G capable of Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC). But it begs the question: is this investment justified?
Mobile Experts' new report considers a wide variety of applications over the course of the next five years, and clearly identify which applications are realistic and which are not. Applications analyzed include self-driving cars, drones, remote surgery, industrial operations, electric utilities, virtual reality, and manufacturing robot controls.
"We're teetering on the edge of some massive, important changes in connectivity," commented Principal Analyst Joe Madden. "During the next year or two, it's vital for market players looking into URLLC to make educated decisions about their investments of energy, of resources, and of time, because there will be very clear winning and losing courses of action stemming from the URLLC market."
Mobile Experts relied on direct input from more than 20 industry sources, including input from multiple mobile operators and enterprises in key industry areas. Technology suppliers were particularly helpful in illustrating the technical details, but Mobile Experts relies exclusively on interviews with industrial firms to build assumptions regarding market adoption. The market includes information on device shipments as well as service revenue.
"In this report, we've included a complete view of high-reliability IoT applications, including Industrial, Healthcare, Automotive, Transportation, Oil/Gas, Mining, and Manufacturing. There are a few major market challenges, along with certain market drivers, that are essential to a clear view of how this market will grow," commented Principal Analyst Joe Madden.
