The promotion kicked off September 9 with full media support. 1-800 CONTACTS is also tapping into the social activity of participating customers through a unique referral system. If a participating customer refers a friend or family member into the sweepstakes and that referred friend wins, the referring customer also wins. In fact, anyone who enters the sweepstakes and refers friends or family members will increase their chance of winning. One to two winners will be chosen daily throughout the month.
Nearly 60 winners may be selected over the month-long promotion. Contestants can enter by going online to www.1800contacts.com or clicking a link sent by a referring friend. 1-800 CONTACTS' phone and web customers will also be entered automatically when they order during September. Winners will be selected randomly and notified by 1-800 CONTACTS. Eligibility is restricted to those with a valid contact lens prescription.
Joan Blackwood, CMO at 1-800 CONTACTS, said the sweepstakes reinforces the company's long-standing commitment to customers that "it will go to any lengths to take care of their contact lens needs. We stock, sell and deliver more contact lenses than anyone else on the planet. It also sends a message in these recessionary times that we're on the consumer's side by bringing a little budgetary relief."
Blackwood stressed that winners will receive contact lenses for life – without any special clauses or criteria other than maintaining a valid contact lens prescription. If a customer's prescription changes, 1-800 will provide the new lenses.
1-800 CONTACTS is the world's largest contact lens store, with more than 20 million lenses in stock. It ships more than 150,000 contact lenses daily, serves more than seven million customers and is celebrating its 15th anniversary since its founding in 1995.
The company helped revolutionize the contact lens industry in 2003 when it played a role in supporting the passage of the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumer Act by Congress and ultimately signed into federal law by the President. Prior to the legislation, consumers were prevented from receiving their prescriptions and choosing where they wanted to buy contact lenses. In 2008, the company signed an alliance with Walmart bringing 1-800 CONTACTS convenience and customer support to more than 3,000 Walmart stores across America, and offering more than $400 million in savings to consumers.
