Toshiba Collaborates With Imatest to Speed Image Sensor Configuration
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, and Imatest LLC, maker of the world's most popular image quality testing software, have teamed up to enhance Imatest's Image Sensor (IS) Edition, a highly anticipated and powerful tool to help engineers responsible for configuring Toshiba image sensors.
Image sensors, found in products from mobile phones and web-cams to telescopes and medical imaging devices, support a diverse range of imaging applications. Each application carries its own set of challenges and complexities for product development engineers, who must configure the image sensor to deliver the optimal combination of digital image qualities, often having to trade off one image quality for another. The process of correctly configuring image sensors involves an iterative cycle: setting sensor registers; capturing images; conducting tests; and analyzing results - a cycle that is repeated to achieve an ideal configuration for each application and each sensor.
Imatest's IS Edition interfaces with image sensor configuration software, allowing images to be directly read from the sensor and analyzed, providing product engineers with the information they require to optimize sensor settings, including: sharpness, noise, blemish detection, dynamic range, color accuracy, distortion, uniformity, lateral chromatic aberration, veiling glare, ISO sensitivity, and color moire.
"Until now, the IS Edition only interfaced with image sensors from Aptina and OmniVision. We are pleased that this joint effort between Imatest and Toshiba will enable engineers working with Toshiba image sensors to achieve optimal configuration results, efficiently and precisely. The IS edition is a software product whose time has come," said Randy Bockrath, CEO of Imatest.
"By integrating the IS Edition with Toshiba's sensor configuration software, we hope to dramatically reduce the time required to configure our sensors. We are thrilled to collaborate with Imatest on this effort and deliver value to the many engineers who work with Toshiba sensors," said Andrew Burt, vice president of Imaging and Communications Marketing Group at TAEC.
