WASHINGTON, Feb. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ClearPath Action Fund, a 501(c)4 working to accelerate conservative clean energy solutions lead by conservative philanthropist Jay Faison, today issued a letter of support for H.R.4084, the Nuclear Energy Innovation Capabilities Act. Introduced by Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) and Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, the legislation would bring support to federal research and development, and stimulate private investment in advanced nuclear reactor technologies. The full text of the letter is included below:
The Honorable Lamar Smith
Chairman
U.S. House Committee on Science, Space and Technology
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Chairman Smith:
On behalf of ClearPath Action Fund, a 501(c)4 organization working to accelerate conservative clean energy solutions, I want to let you know of our strong support for Representative Weber's bill: H.R.4084, the Nuclear Energy Innovation Capabilities Act.
Nuclear energy is one of the most clean, reliable and efficient sources of electricity available. It has safely provided 20% of our country's electricity for decades, and ultimately represents a technological triumph.
As our nation begins to transition to a modern, cleaner energy system, nuclear energy still has a vital role to play. 4th generation nuclear designs are cheaper, safer, and more efficient that our current reactor technology, and many will be able to reuse spent fuel. There are 48 advanced nuclear companies across North America, but many are considering deployment outside of the United States due to lack of support in Washington. We must support the growth of our nascent advanced nuclear industry by leveraging our long history of nuclear research and development.
H.R.4084 takes several important steps towards an advanced nuclear future. Most importantly, it directs the DOE to beginning planning for a fast neutron source — a crucial resource the private sector will be unable to provide on its own. It also provides for computational modeling support necessary for advanced nuclear engineering, and ensures that the private sector will have access to existing national labs' resources.
America is the global leader in nuclear power, but China and Russia are threatening to usurp this role by aggressively developing new fast neutron nuclear technologies. We should support American entrepreneurs in their mission of developing the next generation of atomic electricity generation.
Sincerely,
Jay Faison
