Here’s a look at a few of the trends we noticed among sports-related press releases in January and February, with a few examples of each.
New Year’s Resolutions
Setting goals for the new year is a common practice in the U.S. In fact, one-third (34%) of U.S. adults planned to make New Year’s resolutions or set a goal for 2024, according to a YouGov poll. Many resolutions were tied to fitness, with around one in five U.S. adults resolving to start doing the following in 2024: exercise more (21%), improve their physical health (21%), eat healthier (20%), or lose weight (19%).

The Big Game
Every year, people around the world tune into the final game of the NFL season. This year, an estimated 123.7 million viewers watched the Big Game on Sunday, Feb. 11, making this the most-watched NFL championship in history, according to estimates from Nielsen.
Most viewers tune in for the game itself or the commercials but this year there was a third factor bringing in more women viewers specifically: Taylor Swift. According to Sportico, 5 million more females watched this year’s game than a year ago, making up 47.5% of the total audience. Whether you were watching for the ads, the sport or just to get a look at Ms. Swift, it was a major event in the sports industry.
