Business Technology News Trends

Here’s a look at a few of the trends we noticed among business technology press releases in May and June, with a few examples of each.

The Growth of ChatGPT/AI

We continued to see the explosive growth of ChatGPT and other AI technology and their many applications. From business to travel, ChatGPT and AI are making their mark as we learn more about their impact and vision for the future.

In late May, a survey concluded that a majority of Americans have heard of ChatGPT, but few have tried it themselves. But reactions to the technology continue to be mixed. As sci-fi author Ted Chiang told Vanity Fair of AI, “We have built a giant treadmill that we can’t get off.”

PR Newswire issued 2,000+ releases mentioning "artificial intelligence" and nearly 300 releases mentioning "ChatGPT" in May and June. Here are just a few of them.

Exploring Smart Products

Smart devices continue to get smarter and take their place in more areas of our lives. Whether it's a smart speaker, security camera, light bulb, thermostat, or air conditioner, smart products run the gamut and can offer greater accessibility, energy efficiency, or just more fun.

PR Newswire issued more than 75 stories in May and June that mentioned the term "smart device." Here are a few you might have missed:

Reinforcing Sustainability

Tech companies are realizing that sustainability is a critical driver of success with a significant impact on their brand. From the production process to when technology reaches the consumer's hands, companies are finding ways to promote a more environmentally friendly future.

In mid-June, Entrepreneur shared strategies for tech companies to level up their green credentials. The article highlights the importance of sustainability in the midst of growing consumer awareness and demand for eco-friendly solutions.

Despite consumer awareness of the issues, the 2023 Google Cloud Sustainability Survey concluded that economic pressures have pushed ESG concerns down to the third position on the list of organizations’ priorities, from the top slot they occupied last year.

PR Newswire issued more than 8,000 stories in May and June that mentioned "sustainability" or “environment.” Of those in the tech space, we spotted a few that stood out:

Entering the Metaverse

In late June, a Forbes article focused on the future of embracing the metaverse, a series of interconnecting virtual worlds that we can use as meeting spaces to do business, connect with others socially or spend time gaming. The rapid evolution of the metaverse is set to revolutionize how we work, interact, and shop.

New research from Cornell showed that the metaverse could even have environmental benefits, such as lowering the global surface temperature by up to 0.02 degrees Celsius before the end of the century.
