As we approach the fall season, we continue to navigate our way through the top business technology press releases. Throughout July and August, PR Newswire sent more than 9,000 technology-related press releases across the wire.

Among the stories, we spotted recurring trends, including the latest adaptations of ChatGPT/AI, the launches of revolutionary new mobile apps, social media highlights, and new cloud technology integrations in the business technology industry. 

Before we dive into the larger trends, let's look at a few of readers' favorite stories of the past two months.

During the past two months, these releases received some of the highest page views of all the tech-related releases.

Here’s a look at a few of the trends we noticed among Business Technology press releases in July and August, with a few examples of each.

ChatGPT and AI Updates

ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence continue taking over by storm and the tech's influence is impacting many industries. An Insider report concluded that the number of job postings mentioning ChatGPT on LinkedIn has grown 21x since the chatbot was released last November, as job seekers are prompted to add new AI skills to their LinkedIn profiles.

PR Newswire issued 2,000+ releases mentioning "artificial intelligence" and 300+ releases mentioning "ChatGPT" in July and August.

Here are just a few of them:

  • At the beginning of July, Stratio BD introduced the global launch of its generative AI engine set to revolutionize how businesses access and utilize their data, using deep learning techniques to understand, summarize, generate, and make forecasts from large data sets. 
  • How well would AI do on an exam? In mid-July, OpenEvidence AI was recognized as the first AI in history to score above 90% on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). 
  • In the music industry, Soul Machines pioneered the creation of autonomously animated Digital Celebrities in partnership with Mark Tuan of K-Pop group GOT7 with the launch of "Digital Mark."
  • Atlantic International University (AIU) announced the integration of Dall-E as its latest addition to the university's virtual campus. Jose Mercado Atri, Chairman of the Board, affirmed, "At AIU we firmly believe that the integration of AI technologies like ChatGPT and Dall-E within our virtual campus and curriculum design is a pivotal step in shaping the future of education."
  • AI entered the legal department with the Everlaw AI Assistant, which gives legal teams a jump start on document review and writing. Some of the capabilities include AI review assistance, AI writing assistance, and the ability for legal teams to ask any questions.
  • In early August, Pinwheel announced the launch of “PinwheelGPT,” the first child-safe AI chat app powered by ChatGPT that enables parental monitoring. This free app is built for children aged 7-12 and is designed to generate only age-appropriate answers that are not overly complex or advanced in vocabulary.

Social Media Updates

Next, let’s dive into the world of social media, which had a busy summer. In the past two months, we’ve seen the introduction of the Threads platform, near-continuous X, formerly known as Twitter, updates, and other new platforms popping up.

Time reported that within seven hours of the Threads app launch on July 5, 10 million people had joined the social media app. Then, the announcement of Elon Musk renaming Twitter to X on July 23 caused quite a bit of controversy and had an immediate effect on the decline of app store downloads, media strategist Eric Seufert reported for Mashable.

In July and August, we were introduced to various new mobile apps. From apps in the health industry to the education industry, the launches run the gamut.

  • Safe Meet Alert announced the launch of a new mobile app to help keep users safe during meet-ups. The mission is to give users peace of mind when they meet up with new people or acquire new business. 
  • RapidDeploy's new mobile app "Lightning" delivers 911 call data and critical information directly to first responders' mobile devices, smartphones, and tablets. 
  • In early August, Appdome announced the launch of its new Mobile App Defense Project, designed to enforce cutting-edge cybersecurity, anti-fraud, anti-malware, and other solutions in mobile applications globally.
  • New mobile app "Kempus" offers a community where students can connect and discuss the university experience anonymously. 

Cloud Technology

As companies embrace a more advanced and high-tech future, we're learning more about cloud technology and its impact in the business technology industry.

Investor's Business Daily covered generative AI's role in driving "The Next Supercycle Of Cloud Computing." "Gen-AI is driving the next supercycle of cloud adoption that accelerates mass market migration over the next few years, since the new technology can only be efficiently deployed in the cloud," says Mizuho Securities analyst James Lee.

PR Newswire issued more than 1,200 cloud computing/IoT releases in July and August, including:

  • In mid-July, cloud company Akamai Technologies introduced three cloud computing sites aimed at meeting the needs of modern applications that require higher performance, lower latency, and true global scalability.
  • International Game Technology PLC upgraded Poland's national lottery operator Totalizator Sportowy's iLottery platform and deployed all of its components to the cloud. 
  • MileMaker announced the "MileMaker API Version 2," which features improved scalability and throughput by utilizing the latest cloud technology. The cloud-based application features an intuitive user interface and enhanced routing capabilities.
  • In August, Promevo announced its participation in Google Cloud Next 2023. Showcasing its latest advancements and groundbreaking products, Promevo reinforces how cloud technology can transform businesses and drive innovation.
  • BigID announced its Bucket Configuration Management capability integrating with essential Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) capabilities. This initiative redefines cloud data security, as it is able to identify and resolve misconfigured Amazon S3 buckets, at the cloud scale.
