Youth Speaks Announces 18th Annual Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam
…Because the Next Generation Can Speak For Itself
SAN FRANCISCO, March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tickets are now on sale for the Grand Slam Finals of the 18th annual Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam, a dynamic, tournament-style competition that brings together more than 500 young poets from throughout the Bay Area. The top six young poets of the Grand Slam Finals will go on to represent the Bay Area in the Youth Speaks Brave New Voices Festival, July 16-19 in Philadelphia, where teams from all over the world are invited to participate in a weeklong, intensive series of workshops, poetry slams and get-togethers where they can exchange art and viewpoints and their mentors can exchange pedagogy and best practices.
"In an era where youth are consistently misrepresented and misinterpreted in mainstream media outlets, this is an opportunity for them to speak their own voice and respond to an ever-increasing empathy deficit in our world." – Susie Lundy, Bay Area Program Director.
The Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam kicks off April 12, 2014 for four weeks, and the top sixteen poets will be competing in the Grand Slam Finals on May 10, 2014 at the Nourse Auditorium.
