YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Receives $7M Gift From AS&F Foundation to Establish YMCA Camp Round Meadow Endowment

As one of the LA Y's three residential camps, YMCA Camp Round Meadow is located in the San Bernardino National Forest and provides creative and educational opportunities for young people to experience physical, emotional, spiritual and personal growth. This endowment will support YMCA Camp Round Meadow's care, maintenance, capital projects, and operations, which includes camp scholarships for children and teens in need.

"The AS&F Foundation is proud to create the Camp Round Meadow Endowment," said John Llewellyn, President of AS&F Foundation. "Generations of children representing the diversity of Los Angeles --geographic, social, ethnic, and economic -- will have their first out-of-the-city experience at Camp Round Meadow. Being at camp isn't just an experience that lasts a week; it is an experience that lasts for a lifetime."

Since 1951, AS&F Foundation has given millions of dollars in support of Southern California organizations to help improve lives in many ways. For nearly a decade, AS&F Foundation has helped provide the life-changing experience of residential camping to thousands of children, youth and, in some cases, entire families.

"I've seen firsthand the transformative nature of Y camp. The kids are having a great time, but don't realize that their lives are being changed by the experience," said Carol Llewellyn, trustee of AS&F Foundation. "Kids return from camp with a new sense of independence and responsibility. In the process of having fun, they have gained social skills, learned to work with others and have been exposed to the values the Y stands for."

"Camp Round Meadow will positively impact thousands of children and teens now and into the future. This endowment ensures we have the resources to provide the special camp experience kids and families have come to expect each year, including underserved children who would otherwise be unable to attend camp."

John Llewellyn, President of the AS&F Foundation, has served on the Board of the Directors for the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles since 2001. His great-uncle, Hubert Eaton founded the AS&F Foundation (formerly the Forest Lawn Foundation), dedicated to "God and Humanity." In early 2017, the trustees of the foundation decided that the Foundation could have a greater impact by distributing all its assets in transformative grants to a limited number of organizations, including the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles.
