MEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Memphis International Raceway (MIR) and IRG Sports + Entertainment (IRGSE) today demonstrated widespread motorsports industry support in announcing its sponsor line-up. The World Series of Drag Racing presented by Sunoco and Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau is partnering with an elite group of sponsors for the August 26 and 27 event at MIR including: Sunoco, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Coca-Cola, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Autobahn Indoor Speedway, R.J.S. Racing Equipment and Seatbelt Solutions.
"The World Series of Drag Racing presented by Sunoco and Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau is the most anticipated drag racing event of the year," stated Shawn Hackman, IRGSE chief revenue officer. "To have such great sponsor partners join us at this event speaks volumes. The event is shaping up to be the largest to date with a record number of sponsors, a talented line-up that is second-to-none and ticket sales exceeding expectations. MIR is the place to be this weekend for all racing enthusiasts."
Sunoco has a 40-year track record of innovation and winning performances, and distributes gasoline to more than 500 race tracks and 50 racing series in the United States. For decades, Sunoco Race Fuels have been associated with racing excellence and this year marks their inaugural season as a presenting sponsor of the World Series of Drag Racing.
"Sunoco is proud to sponsor and support the World Series of Drag Racing for the 63rd running of the oldest continuously running drag race in the United States," stated Terry D. Thompson, Sunoco Senior Sales Manager. "Sunoco has a long history with IHRA that goes back decades and we believe that, with IRGSE and the IHRA team running this historic and legendary event, the future remains bigger and brighter than ever! Moving the location from Cordova to Memphis should provide a larger, more comfortable facility with plenty of room for this event to eventually grow to epic proportions. We look forward to growing with the World Series of Drag Racing for many years to come."
Co-presenting the event is the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau. They have been a big supporter of their hometown track and have partnered with MIR on various national events throughout the years. The organization recently unveiled a Memphis-themed Funny Car paint scheme that will run at the World Series of Drag Racing with driver Daniel Wilkerson in addition to their sponsorship of the historic event.
In addition, Coca-Cola, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., R.J.S. Racing Equipment Inc., and Seatbelt Solutions are proud supporters of the World Series of Drag Racing at Memphis International Raceway. Autobahn Indoor Speedway is the presenting sponsor of the Kids Zone located in the midway area.
"We are very pleased to announce these sponsorship partners for the World Series of Drag Racing," stated Pam Kendrick, MIR president and general manager. "This is going to be a groundbreaking year for the event as the response from the local community, sponsors and fans has been overwhelming. The excitement for the World Series of Drag Racing at Memphis International Raceway is undeniable and is exceeding our expectations with pre-sales higher than our flagship event, the Super Chevy Show."
The World Series of Drag Racing is two days of non-stop drag racing action including professional racers from around the country as well as local sportsman racers all competing to become the next champion of the World Series of Drag Racing presented by Sunoco and the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau.
