Workforce Opportunity Services Partners With Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYC Department of Veterans Services for New Veterans Mentoring Initiative
The new initiative aims to mentor nearly 2,000 veterans by July 2018.
NEW YORK, May 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS), the leading non-profit organization geared towards aligning individuals from underserved groups with transformative career opportunities, is advancing its mission to support veterans as they launch their civilian careers. WOS is proud to announce that it will partner with the New York City Department of Veterans Services to help lead its new Veterans Mentoring Initiative.
The Veterans Mentoring Initiative, a collaboration between the city government, educational institutions, and other veterans-focused organizations, was designed to ensure that veterans based in New York City—and their families—have access to guidance around education and career opportunities. As part of the initiative, veterans and their loved ones will have access to a new digital platform created to assess their needs and align them with a local organization that can aid them in overcoming obstacles. The Department of Veterans Services has enlisted WOS and over a dozen other organizations that are dedicated to helping individuals who have served transition back into civilian life. The initiative strives to mentor at least 2,000 New York City-based veterans by July 1, 2018.
Since its inception, WOS has served nearly 1,000 veterans, and we are proud to expand our reach through this new initiative. "Mentoring continues to be the most effective method of helping individuals grow in their social and professional endeavors. Veterans, in particular, need personal mentoring to help them transition from military to civilian life," said Dr. Art Langer, Chairman and Founder, Workforce Opportunity Services. "Transforming into a civilian world is complex in many ways and requires navigating through personal and business environments. Every veteran should have a mentor who can guide them through this journey. To this end, we are proud to partner with the City of New York to bring more robust services to Veterans joining our community."
