Wolf Administration Announces Consumer Financial Protection Outreach Events for December
Focus on Fraud Prevention
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Education and outreach staff from the Department of Banking and Securities will be meeting with senior citizens, professionals, students, and members of the public across Pennsylvania during the month of December for events focused primarily on protecting consumers from fraud.
"It is our goal at the department for all Pennsylvanians to enjoy a basic sense of security when it comes to their finances and to help ensure they are equipped to detect and protect themselves from financial fraud and scams," Secretary of Banking and Securities Robin L. Wiessmann said. "Members of our outreach staff are skilled in communicating what can sometimes be complex financial information and issues into easily understood concepts, tips, and strategies."
The following events are scheduled for the month of December:
- Avoiding Scams and ID Theft
- Pleasant Hills Apartments (Open to residents and guests ONLY) in Pleasant Gap (Centre County) on December 6 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM (Note: This presentation will also include Fraud Bingo.)
- Kreider Commons (Open to residents and guests ONLY) in Lebanon (Lebanon County) on December 12 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
- Red Land High School (Open to selected classes ONLY) in Lewisberry (York County) on December 21 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Cybersecurity: Staying Safe Online – Philadelphia Municipal Services Building (Open to Technology Learning Collaborative members ONLY) in Philadelphia on December 8 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM
- EIFFE Tax Preparer Seminar – Penn State University – Abington (Closed to the public) in Abington (Montgomery County) on December 13
- Preparing for Big Purchases – Montgomery County CareerLink at 1855 New Hope Street in Norristown (Montgomery County) on December 13 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
- FBLA Regional Leadership Conference – Indiana University of Pennsylvania (Open to FBLA student attendees ONLY) in Indiana (Indiana County) on December 18 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The department's Financial Services for Consumers and Business staff works with state and local government agencies, service providers, community and trade organizations, the General Assembly, the military community, schools, and other partners to help Pennsylvanians across the commonwealth become well-informed about the financial marketplace.
