MCFARLAND, Wis., Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA), an online public charter school, is accepting Open Enrollment applications for the 2016-2017 school year. Open Enrollment is available to students in grades K-12 who reside anywhere in the state, however families must submit an application during the state's Open Enrollment window: Monday, February 1, 2016 through 4 p.m. CST on Friday, April 29, 2016. Submitting an Open Enrollment application does not commit students to enrolling in the fall, but does provide them the option to do so at a later date.
WIVA is a tuition-free academic option for students who seek alternatives to a traditional brick-and-mortar education. Lessons are accessed online, and each student is supported by a highly-qualified, Wisconsin-licensed teacher who monitors student progress while providing professional insight and guidance. Teachers communicate with students and parents via phone, email and the online classroom technology in order to provide a highly individualized approach that helps prepare students for post-graduation career or college success.
"We are focused on helping all students achieve success," said Nicholas Sutherland, Head of School at Wisconsin Virtual Academy. "To that end, we are sensitive to each individual student's learning style. Our program gives every student the ability to proceed more quickly -- or at a more reserved pace -- through the curriculum, to ensure depth of understanding and retention of learned skills and concepts."
WIVA offers a mastery-based program for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th, in order to strengthen students' understanding of the material. The WIVA high school program offers more than 150 courses with multiple academic levels, including core, comprehensive, Honors, and Advanced Placement – all designed to let students enjoy a program tailored to their goals and abilities. Core subjects like English, History, Math and Science offer a large variety of AP-level coursework, and students have access to a wide selection of electives such as world languages to help them prepare for life after graduation.
WIVA will host in-person events in communities across the state for families to learn more about the school and meet with teachers and staff. Several online information sessions will also be held. More information on these events can be found online here.
Families are encouraged to take the necessary steps to ensure they have high-quality educational options for the upcoming 2016-2017 academic year by submitting an application before the state's Open Enrollment deadline of April 29, 2016. Interested families are encouraged to visit http://wiva.k12.com/ for more information on the school and how to submit an Open Enrollment application.
