"The customer response to the first run of our distinctive burger-and-onion-scented candles was overwhelming," Jamie Richardson, vice president of corporate communications, said. "Our original goal was to do something special for our loyal Cravers while supporting Autism Speaks. We've increased the candle supply for the holiday season and are hopeful the candles will be just as successful the second time around."
White Castle originally launched the candle in May in honor of National Hamburger Month. The small supply of 10,000 candles sold out in less than 48 hours.
The candles are packaged in a ceramic holder that reproduces the signature cardboard sleeve of the White Castle hamburger packaging. Net proceeds of the candles will benefit Autism Speaks.
"The holidays are a perfect time for the candle to return because it's a different, fun, quirky gift for the ultimate Craver anywhere," Richardson said. "Cravers get their very own burger-and-onion-scented candle and the sales help Autism Speaks, an organization both White Castle and Nest Fragrances are strongly committed to."
Candles were first sold in May to commemorate the 18th annual celebration of National Hamburger Month. White Castle teamed up with Laura Slatkin, founder and CEO of Nest Fragrances, often called the "queen" of home fragrances, to introduce a candle with scent of America's first fast-food hamburger. The idea for the candle was sparked when White Castle executives met Slatkin, who sits on the board of Autism Speaks.
"When I met Bill and Marci Ingram, two of the owners of White Castle, we laughed about producing a candle that smells like a Slider®," Slatkin said. "But, the more we talked about it, the more I thought to myself, 'What could be better than a candle that smells like a White Castle slider? It's what we all crave, most of all me!' I am thrilled it has been so well-received by White Castle lovers everywhere – I think it is definitely the next best thing!"
Forget balsam and berries, Richardson said. If you're craving the scent of White Castle sliders to fill your house this holiday season, go to www.houseofcrave.com to get the candles before they sell out.
