COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- White Castle, America's first hamburger chain and home of Time Magazine's Most Influential Burger, will pay homage throughout the month of May to a cultural institution, the hamburger. As the official sponsor of the 26th annual National Hamburger Month, White Castle invites Cravers to join the celebration with promotions all month long, such as enjoying free sliders and submitting their entries for the 17th Cravers Hall of Fame class.
"The hamburger is an American classic, and we have been loyal fans of the sandwich since opening America's first hamburger chain in 1921 serving The Original Slider®," said Jamie Richardson, vice president of White Castle. "As slider creators for 96 years we know the importance of the hamburger in the American home, and we appreciate every opportunity to satisfy another customer's Craving, whether at one of our restaurant's tables, or yours at home."
While National Hamburger Month is focused on celebrating the hamburger, White Castle is honoring the people whose love for the iconic sandwich knows no bounds. Starting May 1, White Castle will begin accepting entries for its 17th Annual Cravers Hall of Fame class. Bonded by unique and compelling Crave-able moments, the boldest of Cravers are encouraged to submit original stories about their relationship with White Castle, and why White Castle is meaningful to them.
"The Crave is a powerful thing. From super heroes to love stories for the ages, we are humbled by the ways our food moves Cravers to undertake extraordinary acts. The Cravers Hall of Fame is how we, at White Castle, honor those whose stories best showcase their commitment to the Crave," said Richardson.
The judges set criteria to evaluate each story based on the following: brand loyalty, creative presentation, originality and magnitude of the Crave. Previous winning entries have included tattoos, epic road trips, moving family traditions that have spanned generations and tributes to fallen friends. Winners join over 200 other Cravers from across the United States including some celebrity Cravers such as Kal Penn and John Cho of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, rock icon Alice Cooper, and most recently Marvel Comics legend, Stan Lee. The deadline for entering the 2017 contest is September 29, 2017. Entries can be submitted online at whitecastle.com/CHOF, where rules and regulations are also posted.
Additional festivities planned for National Hamburger Month include National Slider Day, held annually on May 15 to honor the small but bold hamburger. White Castle serves sliders for every taste and occasion – from grilled chicken to vegetarian, breakfast to the new Bacon Jam Slider. Cravers on May 15 will be able to download a coupon from White Castle's social media pages and via email good for any free Slider (single, bun Sliders only) and a free small Coca-Cola Freestyle beverage (100+ options). For the most inventive, culinary Cravers, original White Castle slider recipes can be submitted for a chance to win a Culinary Crave Adventure and more.
