COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For many years, grandparents have passed their love of the Crave onto the future generation of Cravers – their grandchildren. National Grandparents Day is September 13, but White Castle will celebrate grandparents and their special holiday the entire month of September by investing in the next generations' future. Through White Castle's charitable outreach initiative, Castle Shares, ten Cravers will receive a $500 savings bond to put toward their education.
Grandparents and grandchildren ages 13 and older are invited to submit their memorable moments, photos and videos on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag, #WCGrandparentsContest for a chance to win. The contest ends September 30 and White Castle will notify the 10 winners by October 20.
"As a family-owned business, we value the special bond grandparents and grandchildren share, and we understand the key role grandparents play in our lives," said Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president. "Grandparents pass many valuable life lessons onto their grandchildren, from the love of the Crave to the importance of a good education. At White Castle, we're committed to celebrating grandparents and investing in our younger Cravers' futures."
In addition to the Grandparents Day contest, starting September 4, every Castle will distribute up to 150 commemorative postcards to customers upon request. The postcards will allow Cravers to share their memorable moments with their grandparents or grandchildren across the U.S.
"I have great memories of my grandparents – my grandmother Chlois, who let us snack on White Castle pickles whenever we had a road trip, and my Grandfather Edgar, who always took us to his favorite restaurant – the closest Castle," said Lisa Ingram, President and COO of White Castle. "Our mission at White Castle is to make memorable moments every day. Celebrating Grandparents Day is one more way we are able to do just that."
This is the fourth year White Castle will celebrate National Grandparents Day, and the first time the promotion will run for the entire month of September.
In 1978, President Jimmy Carter declared the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day with the help of Marian McQuade. McQuade proposed the day as a way to give grandparents the opportunity to show their love for their grandchildren and to help the younger generation become more aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
