What's 'App' Doc? Sutter Health Launches New Mobile App
Technology designed to enhance convenience, access and connections
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sutter Health debuts a new, free mobile app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch designed to provide patients more convenient, anytime access to its network of care and services – giving them health care on the go.
"At Sutter Health, we share a promise to create a more personalized, high-value health care experience for our patients and their families through partnership," said Sutter Health president and CEO Pat Fry. "Technology like the Sutter Health app improves this partnership by bringing us closer together—when and where consumers want to access our services and physicians."
Sutter Health's new app for iPhones empowers current and prospective patients to address their health care needs in one stop and when they choose to connect. Unique features include:
- Access to a "Symptom Checker," which helps users make informed decisions about their health, including what level of care to seek out next
- Access to My Health Online, a secure online site where patients may access their health information, e-mail their physician's office, request appointments, view test results, pay bills, etc.
- Consults with physicians via phone or video through MDLIVE, a nationally respected provider of telehealth services for consumers, employers, health plans, hospitals and physician organizations
More and more consumers turn to mobile devices to access medical information. According to Pew Research Internet Project, 58 percent of U.S. adults and 43 percent of rural consumers now own a smart phone; 42 percent of American adults own a tablet computer; 52 percent gather health information on their phones, and one in five smart phone owners has a health app.
The app is available for download now on the Apple iTunes store. Android and tablet users: stay tuned for Version 2 of the app in early 2015.
"The Sutter Health app is the latest example in our long history of embracing hi-tech innovations to improve clinical care," added Fry. "Over the years, we advanced care through the early adoption of the electronic intensive care unit, as well as smart IV pumps, bar-coding technology and automated medication dispensaries to help with the safe administration of medications. Our electronic medical record is one of the largest and most complex installs of EPIC in the country. With this newest technological investment in our patients, we're working to make care more convenient and accessible."
