WGU Washington Welcomes Two New Board Members

Major General Timothy J. Lowenberg and Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney join online university's advisory board

SEATTLE, Oct. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- WGU Washington, washington.wgu.edu, is welcoming two newcomers to its advisory board this month.  Major General Timothy J. Lowenberg and former state Representative Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney will join the 10 current board members and Chancellor Jean Floten in guiding the online university in the coming year.

Before joining WGU Washington's Advisory Board, Major General Timothy J. Lowenberg served as Adjutant General of the State of Washington from 1999 to 2012.  He is the second-longest serving Adjutant General since the formation of the Washington Territorial Militia in 1855.  An alumnus of the University of Iowa, where he earned both a bachelor's degree in Political Science and a law degree, Lowenberg is a highly decorated member of the military, having earned more than 20 medals recognizing his service. 

A long-time member of the Washington State Legislature (serving from 1997 until 2013), Representative Gutierrez Kenney is currently vice president of Leadership and Economic Development for Sea Mar Community Health Centers.  During her tenure in the Washington State Legislature, Representative Gutierrez Kenney was known for her advocacy and support of higher education and economic development.  A champion for higher education, she sponsored and supported legislation that extends opportunities to Washington residents, including the bill that created WGU Washington.

WGU Washington's Advisory Board was established in 2011 to provide counsel to Chancellor Floten on Washington state-specific needs and trends and to help shape the direction and continued success of the university.  In addition to the two new members, the board consists of:
