Wethersfield High School Principal Swoops in for the A+ Bonus Bucks Challenge
WETHERSFIELD, Conn., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Stop & Shop Supermarket Company has chosen one of its six winners for the A+ Bonus Bucks Program's Principal Challenge from Wethersfield, CT. The winning entry came from Wethersfield High School principal, Thomas Moore. In order to earn the greater of $1,000 or double his school's point total for the month of November, Mr. Moore has agreed to dress up as the school mascot, an eagle, and walk to the nearest Stop and Shop store wearing a sign that reads, "Wethersfield High School and its principal love Stop and Shop." He will then do his grocery shopping dressed as the eagle. This event will take place March 3rd at 2pm starting at the school.
"I announced the Principal Challenge winner information at my Parent, Teacher, Student Association meeting last Thursday and everyone applauded! They all want to be a part of the entourage, so we are looking at ways to get staff and students involved in the procession from Wethersfield High School to the Wethersfield Stop n Shop," said Mr. Moore when asked the reaction to being chosen as one of the winners. "I announced the winning at the meeting with the entire district's school administrators last week. They were also very excited and complimentary."
When asked about how the money will be used Mr. Moore stated,
"The money will go into a principal's escrow account. I am thinking about two areas to help with the funds. The first area is our Junior Engineers Technical Society (JETS) which has won a trip to Washington to a national competition based on their invention. Their invention is a walker that automatically adjusts to allow people with ambulatory issues the ability to walk up and down stairs in a safe and stable manner. The second area is a 'transition academy' during the summer that helps 'at risk' incoming ninth graders an experience that will help them adapt to high school and ensure some academic success."
The A+ Bonus Bucks Program is an easy school fundraising program that Stop & Shop offers to help local schools earn extra money every time one of their supporters shops for groceries. Schools can use the cash for computers, band equipment, art supplies or any other educational need. Money is earned by the schools through a card designation/point system. Schools enroll in the program and parents/supporters register their cards for a school of their choice, up to three, and earn points for the schools by shopping. These points are then converted to cash. The more points a school has, the more money they will earn. There are also multiple contests, such as the Principal Challenge, throughout the year to help schools earn additional cash and points.
