SEATTLE, May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- New data released today by RealSelf, the leading online resource to learn about cosmetic treatments and connect with plastic surgeons, shows more people are getting cosmetic procedures as part of their wedding preparation, with wedding-related reviews up 30 percent in 2019.1
Reviews for nonsurgical treatments in particular are on the rise, accounting for 46 percent of all wedding-related reviews posted on RealSelf over the past 12 months. This is an increase of 10 percentage points compared to a year earlier, when there was a higher percentage of reviews for surgical procedures (64 percent) compared to nonsurgical ones (36 percent).
Breast Augmentation and Rhinoplasty Share No. 1 Spot
Rhinoplasty and breast augmentation top the list of most-reviewed surgical treatments ahead of weddings, together accounting for 14 percent of all wedding-related reviews posted on RealSelf over the last 12 months. Breast augmentation ranked No. 1 in 2018 as well, while rhinoplasty jumped from the No. 5 spot in 2018 to tying for No. 1 in 2019.
"Cosmetic interventions are real medical procedures that require serious thought and consideration," said RealSelf chief medical officer Dr. Lara Devgan. "While a major life event such as a wedding might motivate a patient to move forward with a procedure, that individual has likely been contemplating and researching for months or even years leading up to that point."
Interest in Nonsurgical Treatments Heats Up
Four nonsurgical treatments made the list in 2019, up from only two in 2018. Botox (No. 2) and CoolSculpting (No. 5) make the list for the second year in a row, with Botox moving up two spots on the list and CoolSculpting moving down two spots. New additions are SculpSure, a treatment that uses targeted laser energy to penetrate the skin and destroy fat cells with heat, and a tried-and-true classic, the facial.
