Way to Win Announces Jenifer Fernandez Ancona to Serve as VP to Lead Political Strategy & Strategic Communications
The former Women Donors Network VP will be joined by Way to Win founding staff member and new Chief of Staff Tori Miyagi, along with outside counsel, Roy Herrera
SAN FRANCISCO, March 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Way to Win — the progressive donor collaborative that seeks to upend politics as usual — today announced that Co-Founder, Jenifer Fernandez Ancona, will serve as Vice-President, spearheading strategic communications and scaling their "Plan to Win."
"I have spent my career in politics working to include historically underrepresented communities into the political process, and to fight for a more equitable, just world," said Jenifer Fernandez Ancona. "Returning to Way to Win full-time is the best way for me to support that mission -- especially as we head into the most consequential election of our lives."
Ancona brings a diverse array of experience in communications, donor organizing, political strategy, and mutli-racial coalition building to her new role. Most recently, she served as Vice President at the Women Donors Network, leading the C4 activity of Women Donors Network Action. Ancona has also served as a Senior Advisor to the Sandler-Phillips Center; a consultant at Democracy Alliance; a top legislative aide in the California State Assembly; and a former reporter for the Los Angeles Times.
"Jenifer will bring her wealth of expertise to scale our political strategy and lead our strategic communications efforts to inspire and mobilize a progressive majority of multiracial, multigenerational coalition of voters in 2020," said Way to Win President and Co-Founder Tory Gavito. "Our Plan to Win is tracking 293 races in 10 key battleground states across the country to build a democracy truly reflective of our diverse society -- and no one understands that better than Jen."
Way to Win moved $22 million during the 2018 midterms and over $27 million in 2019 to win 50 out of 73 races in key 2020 battleground states to beat Trump and win progressive power at every level of government. In the 2020 election cycle, Way to Win expects to move more than $50 million and recently invested roughly $1 million ahead of the Nevada caucuses and Texas primary to turn out people of color, tribal communities, and former felons who are able to vote this election cycle.
Along with Ancona, joining the leadership team as Chief of Staff will be Tori Miyagi. A founding Way to Win staff member who previously directed Way to Win's programs and operations, he will continue to marshall resources for Way to Win's extensive network of donors and organizers while leading Way to Win's staff. Prior to Way to Win, Miyagi worked at the Democracy Alliance, where he managed the funding process on behalf of individual and institutional donors. Additionally, Roy Herrera, a former Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice who is now of Counsel at Ballard Spahr -- one of the nation's largest law firms -- will serve as Way to Win's outside legal counsel.
With these new additions, Way to Win continues to expand its diverse team of experienced political strategists and organizers seeking to upend politics as usual and build a more reflective and representative democracy that works for all Americans.
