STERLING, Ill., Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 60 million guys in the U.S. sport facial hair annually—up 10 percent in just the last few years, according to a national study commissioned by men's grooming leader Wahl. To support this 'growing' trend, Wahl is scouring the country in search of men who give facial hair a good name in the annual Wahl Man of the Year competition.

"For many guys, facial hair is much more than a trend—it's a badge of honor," said Steve Yde, marketing director for Wahl. "That's why the Wahl Man of the Year contest exists. It's about recognizing and honoring those who not only wear facial hair, but do it with pride."
Dubbed the ultimate facial-hair faceoff and the 'mane' event, the Wahl Man of the Year contest gives facial hair enthusiasts the chance to go head to head, or in this case, face to face, against the country's best beards, mustaches and goatees. Fifteen finalists will win $500 and a Wahl Lithium Ion + Stainless Steel Trimmer. From these well-groomed few, one will emerge the 2013 champion and receive a $1,000 grand prize. Those who think they have what it takes to compete can enter online at wahlnation.com.
Nationwide Search Underway
To find its next Man of the Year, Wahl is sending its 30-foot mobile barbershop city to city, stopping at major fairs and festivals across the country. Titled the Face the Day Tour, those who stop by can enter the contest while also receiving some help getting their facial hair in game shape. Wahl's team of master barbers, armed with the latest grooming tools from Wahl, will be on hand to provide free facial hair trims—and for a good cause. For every facial hair trim performed, Wahl will donate $1 to ZERO, a foundation that is leading the fight against prostate cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men.
"As a family-owned company, Wahl is always looking for ways to use our products for good—whether it's supporting charitable organizations based on free trims or donating clippers and trimmers to support head-shaving and facial hair growing events," said Yde.
The Wahl Man of the Year competition runs through October 28, 2013. Complete information on the contest, including tour stops, expert tips, grooming advice and official contest rules, can be found at WahlNation.com. You can also connect with Wahl on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
About WAHL Trimmers
A quarter-century ago, WAHL recognized the desire for well kept facial hair and created the trimmer category. The WAHL Groomsman was the world's first battery operated facial hair trimmer, and featured the same type of blade quality that defined WAHL clippers. And for the past 25+ years, that innovation has continued, developing trimmers for specific facial hair styles – beard, goatee and mustache – and other variations including ear/nose, body grooming and all-in-one. WAHL introduced the first trimmer to harness the next generation of lithium ion power that continues a legacy of superior trimming innovation.
