VShell 4.4 (Official) from VanDyke Software Introduces a New Enterprise Edition with HTTPS Support for Browser-Based Secure File Transfer Solutions
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Aug. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- VanDyke Software®, a developer of multi-platform secure file transfer and secure terminal emulation software, today announced the official release of VShell® 4.4 Server for Windows. VShell 4.4 introduces HTTPS support, giving organizations the ability to deploy a browser-based, secure file transfer solution for employees and external customers.
"Many of our customers need the additional flexibility of a file transfer option that doesn't require the use of a client-side software application," said Danielle Argiro, Product Director for VShell. "With VShell 4.4 with HTTPS, end users can now connect to VShell using their Internet browser to transfer files easily. This eliminates a significant amount of training and administrative overhead since no client software or special plugins are needed. File transfer can also be automated using HTTPS command-line tools such as cURL."
VShell delivers strong, multi-protocol security for data in transit, giving you fine-grained control over end user access to data on your system. The VShell virtual root capability lets you "lock down" users and groups so they can only see the folders on your file system that you allow them to see. It also lets you specify whether or not they can perform specific operations such as deleting files or directories.
New in VShell 4.4 for Windows are SFTP virtual roots, which protect internal SFTP servers from Internet threats and enable system administrators to leverage an external SFTP server by seamlessly transferring file system operations from VShell to the target server. Also on Windows, an improved virtual root user interface makes configuration faster and allows you to see user and group permissions at a glance.
VShell offers additional benefits. Triggers allow you to automate data and business processing; you can configure VShell to run commands/scripts or move, copy, or transfer files in response to user operations such as file upload. Logging and real-time monitoring support corporate security requirements and regulatory compliance. VShell also helps you to thwart brute force attacks when you configure it to add IP addresses to a denied host list after a specified number of authentication failures.
Adding HTTPS and HTTP to the file transfer protocols already supported by VShell (SFTP, FTPS, FTP, and SCP) expands the use of VShell to non-technical end users, while still providing advanced security options.
